Biography: Full back who played both for Northern Ireland and the Republic. Settled in Luton and worked locally for Vauxhall for many years until his retirement. Died in January 2000.

Aherne, Thomas If I remember correctly he was always known as Bud Aherne and he was a first clas defender.


Aherne, Thomas In the early 50s I lived in Luton. Bud Ahearne lived in the next street. We played football in the street in those days. One day he walked past but stopped to watch us playing. He then said to us you keep passin the ball across the goal. You should never do that. We always watched at the matches. He always passed the ball upfield. Lovely man with a big smile.
