England, Mike Mike was a star in the era when my Dad used to take me to Spurs as a boy. In adult life I was on a golf holiday at La Manga and Mike was playing in the game ahead of me. A really nice guy and so interesting to talk to. I hope he is still fit and well and enjoying his golf.

England, Mike We would go up the Blackburn Locarno (Mecca) and Mike would come in with the team. We girls would promenade past them. Sometimes a couple of the team would get on the dance floor. I remember dancing next to Mike. He thought it funny that I only came just above his armpit. I must admit that I secretly fancied him but we all knew he was with Gwen. He was a lovely lad.

England, Mike Mike was an immensely popular Seattle Sounder and anchored one of the first US professional soccer teams, which today continues as one of the premier soccer teams in the United States having won the championship in the last several years. I also played and coached soccer, including as coach for his two sons. That youth soccer team also won the championship in the City of Seattle (WA). That team the Capitol Hill Cougars has its 50th reunion coming up in July 2022. It would be nice if Darren (and Mike) came to the reunion in Seattle, or at least reached out to let us know how they are doing. Congratulations to Mike for his exceptional career, it could not have happened to a nicer gentlemen and true professional soccer player and coach. whom I have always admired in my own soccer career.

England, Mike I played for the campers’ team against the camp staff at Prestatyn Holiday Camp in 1959 (I think). We lost 7-0. I played centre forward. The opposing centre half played me off the pitch. I hardly touched the ball. The next day I found him in a wooden hut handing out putting irons and golf balls on the putting course. I asked him who he played for and he replied “Blackburn Rovers”. I saw him a year or two later as he got out of the Tottenham coach at Old Trafford.

England, Mike Mike was treated for a injured ankle by my father Bobby Mcgregor at our home in Belfast. He’s also played football with the kids in the street. I remember he went with my dad, who was physio for Glentoran, to watch a Irish league game. It was announced over the ground that Mike Wales who plays for England was at the match - much to the amusement of the spectators. To add insult to injury, Mike sat on a nail and ripped his trousers!
