Biography: Undoubtedly one of the finest players to have played in the League, Tom scored 187 goals for his only club, Preston in 433 League games. In 1954 he became the first player to be chosen Footballer of the Year, an honour he received again three years later. Tom played 76 times for England, retired from the game at the age of 38 in 1960 and was awarded the O.B.E. the following year. Had set up Tom Finney Ltd, plumbing, heating and electrical contractors in 1946, and held the role of managing director until 1992. Also worked as a part time writer for the News of the World, and was Chairman of the Preston Health Authority from 1983 until 1987.
