George Graham

George Graham

Clubs played for: Aston Villa, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Portsmouth, Crystal Palace. (1962-1977)

Born: 1944

Birthplace: Bargeddie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland

Position: Midfielder/Forward

Biography: Stroller, whose potential was initially spotted by ex-Pompey player Jimmy Easson, went on to enjoy phenomenal success both as a player and manager at Arsenal. He joined Pompey from Manchester United in the twilight of his career as part of a straight swap that took Ron Davies to Old Trafford. He lived in Southsea and provided a calm influence and an experienced head to a struggling side. He could not help prevent relegation to the Third Division in 1975/6 and was used as bait to lure David Kemp to Fratton Park from Crystal Palace as part of the re-building process. His playing days drew to a close after a summer in America with California Surf. He coached various clubs before taking charge of Millwall. Later moved back to Arsenal with great success before accepting an 'unsolicited gift' from Norwegian agent Rune Hauge and was sacked. Has since managed Leeds and Spurs but is now a media pundit.
