Biography: The former Eire player and manager, came across the water in October 1968 when his club, Drumcondra accepted Pompey's offer of £8,000. For the next seven years he was virtually a permanent fixture in the side and his consistent displays earned him a callup to the Eire side, for whom he made 19 appearances and was to later take over as National Team Manager. In 1976 he decided to move over to South Africa but returned to the club as player coach in December 1977. A career in management beckoned and he had stints in charge of Huddersfield Town, Shelbourne, Limerick and coached in South Africa. During his time with Limerick he was the 1980 Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland Personality of the Year and won the FAI Cup in 1982. Five years later, he was diagnosed with pancreatitis which has prompted him to gave up smoking and drinking. Having sold his house in Cowplain, he built a new home for himself in County Kerry and now works as an advisor for the Irish Football Association and commentates. for local radio and TV.
