Biography: Became the first £100,000 signing in club history when Tommy Docherty signed him from Aston Villa to partner Tommy Baldwin after Peter Osgood broke his leg. One of the best headers of the ball in the game, he never really justified his fee despite scoring the winner against Leeds to book the Blues first ever appearance in a Wembley Cup Final. He was sold at the end of the season to Liverpool with Chelsea getting their money back. Upon retiring from the game, set up his own business until 1978, when he became Lottery Manager at Goodison Park. Three years later became a drinks rep before moving to the Preston area. Was running a stall at Southport's indoor market selling Christmas decorations. Father of England striker Mark.

Hateley Tony Tony came to work for a American Chemical Company in 1974, I was his sales manager. We had some great times around the Liverpool area when I came up from Birmingham on training trips. He became a great salesman !! But could not keep away from football.
