Harry Hughes

Clubs played for: Southport, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Gillingham. (1950-1962).

Born: 1929

Birthplace: Nuneaton

Position: Centre-half

Biography: Played his only senior game against Liverpool in August 1951 replacing John Saunders. Unfortunately he soon had John Harris blocking his path to the first team and after 16 months at the club was sold to Bournemouth for £1,500. Ran the Club shop at Spurs for eleven years, before moving to Guildford where he was self-employed.

Hughes, Harry Harry was Sports Master at my school St Peters in 1969 whilst he was manager at Guildford City. He also had a sports shop in the town near the old bus station.

Hughes, Harry I can remember Harry used to take us lads for football lessons at my old school, I was about 10 at the time, we would walk about a mile or so to the football pitches in Priest fields Rochester, play for an hour or so then walk back to school - that was 55 years ago!!

Hughes, Harry MY FATHER WAS AT GUILDFORD CITY FROM ABOUT 1950-1964. I REMEMBER HARRY AT THE CLUB ABOUT 1963-64 TIME, A LARGE MAN IN MY EYES AS I WAS ONLY A BOY, HE ALSO DID SOME COACHING AT MY SCHOOL GEORGE ABBOT SEC MOD. SHORTLY AFTER THAT I MOVED WITH MY PARENTS TO BURNLEY. AGIANT OF A MAN IN EVERY WAY.
