Jones, George I remember George well from my childhood days. I lived in Rossall Avenue, the next street over from Walker Street, where George lived in Chapelfield, Radcliffe. He was a bit older than me but he used to come round to our house with my other mates to watch telly, when we first had a TV set around 1954-55. He was always very athletic and he became a local hero when he started playing for Bury and I seem to remember seeing him in an England Under 21 match on the TV, in which he scored a goal, I think. When my mother was still alive she often used to bump into him in Radcliffe and Bury and he always asked to be remembered to me. Fond memories of him from my youngest days. Glad to hear he is still alive.

JONES, George My mother was cousin to Georges dad. I think I once played on his five a side team at Radcliffe Secondary school, but I was never a football lover. Hadn't seen him for a long time but went to my local dentist a few years ago and George was sat in the waiting room. I hadn't recognised him until he said hello to me. We only had chance for a brief chat before seeing the dentist. I think he's still living in the Radcliffe or Bury area.

Jones, George Used to see George during his Oldham days when he stopped in for a pint in the Junction in Whitefield. He was approachable and friendly and loved chatting to people about football. We used to ask him to relive some of the great goals he scored for Bury during their promotion season and he spoke fondly of the club and Les Shannon in particular.
