Paul Mariner

Paul Mariner

Clubs played for: Chorley, Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, Arsenal, Portsmouth, Wollongong City, Albany Capitals, Naxxar Lions, San Francisco Bay (1971-1993)

Born: 1954

Birthplace: Bolton

Position: Centre-forward

Biography: English international who only stayed one season, but in that time helped the club win promotion from the Second Division (in 1986/7). An established striker who had earned his reputation at Plymouth, Ipswich and Arsenal was brought in from the Gunners for £150,000 and acted as the perfect foil for Mick Quinn. This was to prove to be his league swansong and he ended up playing in America and Malta. Mariner set up his own management company for footballers and briefly taught at a Bolton school before starting a successful coaching career in the America. He was tempted back home by his first club, Plymouth Argyle and became their manager in May 2010. He has since relinquished the role but remained on the coaching staff.

Mariner, Paul Currently head coach of Toronto FC of Major League Soccer.

Mariner, Paul I met Paul on 12th of December 2015 at the Etihad where he was guest star. He is hoping to become a Director of Football at a northern club. Not sure which one. Great guy and, in my opinion along with Ray Crawford, the best centre forward Town ever had. David Johnson, who went to Liverpool, just behind.

Adrian Woodmore In 1979-1980 my Primary School Teacher in Hadleigh Suffolk was Alison Mariner (his wife then) and he lived in Layham, with a Porsche 944 and a pedigree rabbit called Super Blue. He came every Wednesday and took us for Coca Cola Football badges but never liked to discuss his job. A very quiet and nice man and we had to behave in School in order to have Football Training with him Wednesday..
