Biography: Newell was appointed manager of Hartlepool United in 2002, and later became manager of Luton Town a year later. In 2007 after Newell had recently criticised the running of Luton and had given evidence in a corruption scandal he was sacked after four years in charge. His next port of call was to manage Grimsby Town, being appointed in October 2008, he was sacked the following October.

NEWELL, Mike Mike was a good player and a good manager, who found that honesty was his downfall and consequently his integrity meant no one was willing to hire him (shame on the football community)
