NEWTON, Henry Yes, Henry Newton and Joe Baker. The only two players in the 1960s who would never sign kids' autograph books. Always told them to go away. Years later Joe Baker said he would sign my photo, I told him if he did I would rip it up.

Henry Newton An early recollection: Henry, aged 11, was captain of the Firbeck Football Team. In one school match, the team was winning 13-0 at half time. 'For goodness sake lads, ease off' the teacher said. Henry's response was 'But sir, professional footballers get fined if they ease off'. even at that age, he knew where his future lay.
