Gary Pallister

Gary Pallister

Clubs played for: Billingham Town, Darlington (loan), Manchester United, Middlesbrough (1984-2001)

Born: 1965

Birthplace: Ramsgate, Kent

Position: Centre-back

Biography: Although born in Kent, Gary first proved his worth as an outstanding defender in the north east of the country, in Middlesbrough's colours. Their fans were shocked when a £2.3 million transfer fee persuaded the club to let Pally move to Old Trafford in August 1989. Problems with a back injury repeatedly proved irritating, not least when they resulted in him missing Euro 96. He was awarded the PFA Player's Player of The Year award in 1991-1992 and by the time he left United, it was with four Premier League titles, three FA Cups, a League Cup, Cup Winners Cup, UEFA Cup and five Charity Shields safely in the trophy cabinet. Pallister was forced to retire in 2001, became television football pundit for the BBC and ITV. He joined Darlington in a commercial role as Operations Director in September 2010.
