Steve Piper

Steve Piper

Clubs played for: Brighton, Portsmouth (1972-1978)

Biography: Brian Clough once said: "Unfortunately not too many of the players wanted to play for Brighton when I got there, but there was one or two we could rely on, and none more so than Steve Piper, who was one of the most honest and genuine lads, if not the most genuine, we had on the books." A £25,000 move later took him along the coast to Portsmouth but a knee injury sustained in his first season at Fratton Park effectively ended Piper's career, although he did later manage to play at non-league level for Worthing. Settled in Southwick, West Sussex where he became an insurance and mortgage broker. Passed away in December 2017 at the age of 64.
