Maurice I attended Honiton County Secondary School where Maurice was head boy. He was playing for England Schoolboys at the time and later I became the deputy head boy. Also for a short period of time while Maurice was 'busy' elsewhere I was captain of the school football team of which he was a member. This was my only claim to fame as a footballer. In 1954 I joined the Metropolitan Police as a cadet and was posted to Holloway Police Station which covered the Arsenal Stadium. while there I saw Maurice play. I recall his position was a half back and fearless in the tackle.

Setters, Maurice I used to go to Old Trafford as a kid to collect autographs. We waited where the players left their cars. Some of the kids were writing MUFC on the dustier cars. Being a bit of a goody goody I thought this was terrible and started to wipe them out. Just as I was doing it to Maurice Setter’s car he came out and thought I was responsible for the graffiti. He gave me a good telling off but I was chuffed that he had spoken to me.

Setters, Maurice I first met Maurice when I was at Coventry City as a 16 year old apprentice & spent a lot of training sessions with him in the afternoons while working for the Physio Norman Pilgrim & actually then played for him at Doncaster Rovers during the 1972/73 season, I must say Maurice is one of the most special people I have ever met during my life & that he didn’t belong in the lower leagues, he belonged at the top of our game.
He allowed me to come back into the football league after suffering a serious car accident that stopped me playing for 18 months while at Tranmere Rovers, after leaving Doncaster & signing for Exeter City I then went on to carve out a nice career for myself in the USA, Maurice your the best.

Setters, Maurice I was directly up against Maurice Setters when playing inside right for London University against the Army in 1965. Since conscription was still in place, the Army side was very strong, with several - including Maurice - on the books of professional clubs. Somehow, we students survived with a 1-1 draw. Our careers then diverged, with Maurice going on for a successful career in football - and me becoming a Professor of Space Physics at Leicester University.

SETTERS, Maurice Maurice lost a bet so he had to play a game of squash in a ladies skirt at Doncaster squash club. He was a good bloke. I also played my last game of soccer against him at Donny Rovers' Boxing Day 1960. I was playing for Stockport County.
