Biography: A Catholic who made the controversial decision to start his career at protestant Rangers before a £450,000 switch to West London. He spent four years at Stamford Bridge, enjoying what is widely recognised as the best spell of his career. Was sold for £2.5 million soon into Ruud Gullit's reign at the club. Ended his career in the States with Colorado Rapids and is now assistant coach at Houston Dynamo

Spencer, John I always have and will remember a closed season friendly match at the old Caledonian stadium in telford street in inverness when spencer and co played up here in highlands. I shouted at john as he run up the wing hey spencer where is the rest of youre body oweing to his size(short ase) and what a torrent of abuse he gave me in return but god what a player.
