Stainrod, Simon Remember when Simon was manager at Ayr, we went to local rivals Kilmarnock in cup. Simon wore a fedora hat, so every Ayr fan wore these cardboard fedora. What a sight 3000 fedoras in the away end! Hehehe

Stainrod, Simon In 1980 I lived next door to Simon in Rochdale when he was playing for Oldham Athletic. He told me that United had bid £1/3M for him but the deal fell through and he eventually went to QPR. The manager at the time was Terry Venables who left and went to Barcelona. Apparently, Terry wanted him but they already had Steve Archibald and the president thought two "English" players was too many, so it never happened. Simon was desperately unlucky never to play at the highest level.
