Do you have any interesting, happy, or humorous memories of Gerry?
If so, please let us know and we will be happy to share them with the world!

Young, Gerry I lived 5 doors up from Gerry (he No.18, me 28 Roman Road) in Primrose, Jarrow. All the lads used to play football in the field opposite, dodging the cowpats & anyone who showed up got a game. Could be six-a-side or 16 a side. We all took turns in getting a football for birthday or Christmas and Gerry would pick up his ball and go home if he was on the losing side. End of! He left us standing as he built a career in football but it was 'back in the day' when Dads insisted on talented footballers getting a trade behind them for when the football stopped. I seem to recall Gerry following a plumbing apprenticeship. A great guy.

Young, Gerry Gerry was known affectionately by the fans as "Mr Reliable". He helped enormously in re - strengthening our central defence shortly after England player Peter Swan was banned in the betting scandal. It must have been fellow Geordie, Alan Brown, who realised Gerry would make a good converted centre half. He no doubt played alongside Vic Mobley during our great cup run in 1966 when we reached the Cup Final. Vic Mobley was replaced in the final by the rookie player, a very young Sam Ellis, at Wembley. I saw several games leading up to that, including the semi - final victory over Chelsea. I have a friend at my Church who has very fond memories of Gerry in his army days - they were called up at the same time in the early '50's.

YOUNG, Gerry Remember late 1961 early 62, sitting opposite Gerry at the Hoyland Branch SWSC Dinner. On hearing his accent, I asked his whereabouts. 'You'll not know it. A little place outside Jarra' called Primrose Hill.' My reply, 'I went through it yesterday on my way from Shields to Uni at Newcastle'. Later my wife won a S&P set in the spot dance with him. Great chap, and a true Wednesday 'Legend'

Young, Gerry I watched Gerry so many times from the Kop at Hillsborough and I really can't remember him ever seriously putting a foot wrong there. Everyone recalls the 1966 Cup Final, but I don't hold it or anything else against Gerry. One of my all-time heroes.

Young, Gerry A great old fashioned wing half who won but a single cap. With his bulldog features and his boxers nose he scared the life out of opposing forwards
