From the football
pitch to the poker table.
One of the best footballers in history, Teddy Sheringham
played professionally for 24 years with extended stops
at Millwall, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United.
He was also a member of the English National team
from 1993 - 2002. He finished his career with 288
goals professionally, 11 goals for the English
national team, and won every top-level trophy
in the sport.
Upon retirement in 2008, Sheringham turned his attention
to playing professional poker. During his footballing
days, he played poker as a celebrity with some mild
success. After retirement, Sheringham focused his
competitive energy that made him a champion on the
pitch to the green felt of the poker table. As such,
Sheringham began to see success at the table.
Sheringham became known on the worldwide poker scene
during the Main Event of the 2009 World Series of
Poker Europe. A field of 334 of the worlds finest
were battling for £801,603 in prize money. Sheringham
made the money of the event with other poker greats
including Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, and others.
Eventually, Sheringham would finish in 14th place,
winning £40,481 and establishing himself as
a legitimate poker pro.
Since his WSOP-E finish, Sheringham has turned his
attention to the European Poker Tour and has shown
great prowess in the game. He has cashed four times
in EPT Main Events, including making the final table
of the EPT Vilamoura event in April of 2010. He finished
5th in the event pocketing € 93,121.
Don't be surprised if a UK
online casino picks Sheringham to sponsor. So
far, Sheringham has made € 188,166 in professional
poker events. Sheringham was a premier player on the
pitch and he is now proving to be a premier player
on the felt.
