Hurst, John Played against John in a school game circa 1960 when he was a centre forward. I think he scored 6 goals! What a player! Amazing that he became a centre half although even in those days he was much bigger and stronger than everyone else on the pitch!

Hurst, John Saw John Hurst play opening game of season 26th August 1970 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It ended 2 each. I was 20 and on holiday in London. My first time ever seeing a game in England. It was great. Always remember Alan Ball's white football boots - what stick he got from Chelsea crowd. Think both goalkeepers have passed now sadly. Tempus fugit as they say.

Hurst, John John Hurst and Brian Labone were a terrific partnership and John should have been capped by England. In fact that whole Everton team in 1969/1970 should have represented England as they were far and away the best team in the country and usually a full English. Several great Everton players were also overlooked such as Kendall, Morrisey and Mountfield. I wish we had those guys now.

Hurst, John Was a mod in an Everton blue surfer jacket. I was aged 17 with a Gwladys Street season ticket as I had started work at 15 when leaving the secondary modern. I followed them home and away from 1966 to 1970. As the comment above, most of the Everton side were quiet men, look at the back 4 , Tommy Wright, Hurst, Labone, the older Ray Wilson - always very contained. Still think Lab' and Hurst went missing on 22 March 1967 in the Wednesday evening home game to Spurs. Hotspur must have won the toss because in the second half Spurs attacked the Gwladys Street end not Everton - someone to my right shouted some horrible things at J. Greaves - the most repeatable was,"Your finished". Seconds later the Alan Gilzean corner at the church corner flag was straight on to the head of the fabulous Jimmy Greaves, he was close in, very central to goal, just in front of Gordon West and put his header just under the crossbar. Everton lost 1-0. They finished about 6th that season with T.H. above in about 4th. John looked good in the second strip of gold jersey, blue shorts and gold socks. Am 70 now and still have those happy Everton memories of the great Ball, Harvey, Kendall side. Why above do the webpage designers have for John, "Died....." looks like their just waiting ! !

HURST, John I first watched John Hurst play in 1970 when my dad took me to my first Everton game. He wasn't flamboyant and I don't remember ever seeing him get booked, but he was solid, efficuent and reliable and seemed to be the perfect professional: a gentleman! Thank you, John Hurst for all you did for our club.
