Powney, Brian Brian was only 16 when he moved from Eastbourne United reserves, playing in the Brighton League, to play for the Albion’s Metropolitan League ‘A’ team. His first game was against Eastbourne United in that league. It was also United player/coach Jack Mansell’s last game for the club. It was a rather inauspicious start to a fabulous career as his first touch was to pick the ball out of the net from a Mansell screamer that he never saw!!! Speaking about this forty years later Jack said, slightly tongue in cheek, that “it served him right!!!”.
