It turned out that the defeat at the hands of Everton in September 1955 was his only first team appearance. After being unable to dislodge Jeff Whitefoot and Eddie Colman in his six years at Old Trafford, he was sold to Chesterfield. Went into teaching and spent 27 years at Saint Aidan's Church of England Technology College until retiring. Now lives in retirement in Hambleton, Poulton le Flyde.
