Position: Centre-forward

Biography: As a centre forward, scored an incredible 93 goals in 144 games for Arsenal. Won three full England caps, although he had played for Scotland schoolboys as a youngster. Ended his playing career at Raith Rovers, before taking over as their manager in 1974. He later ran a pub in Craigneeuk, and worked in the building trade. Suffered a heart attack and took to after dinner speaking and some coaching in the Motherwell area for the S.F.A. (Played for AS Torino in Italy for 12 months proir to joining Arsenal. The Italians paid Hibs £73,000 for him). He died on 6th October 2003 after suffering a heart attack during a charity golf tournament.

Baker, Joe Still regarded as "The King" at Nottingham Forest by us older supporters.We had the first million pound player (1,150,000 actually) Stan the man,Cloughie's little fat guy John Robertson,Ian Storey Moore et al,but none better than Zigga Zagga. Baker, Joe When Joe Baker moved from Sunderland back to Hibernian he did so after falling out of favour with the then Sunderland manager Allan Brown. My father at the time was caretaker at the Sunderland training complex in Washington Tyne & Wear. As Joe had, I believe, had a row with Allan Brown he had to leave his Sunderland digs and needed somewhere to live. Imagine my utter joy when, as a Sunderland mad 16 year old Joe moved into our house in Washington. He actually gave me a lift to a match where he was playing. I mean WOW!! Sadly he only stayed a couple of weeks before moving back up to Hibs where I believe his family had already moved to. Before leaving he gave my dad a pair of his football boots, one of which he signed with a marker pen. I still have those boots which still have a bit of Roker Park in the studs. Brilliant!!!
