Where Are They Now Book Covers

Have you ever wondered what happened to all of those players that you have seen come and go over the years? The heroes and the villains? The saints and the sinners? The stars that you talked about for years after they had retired and those you instantly forgot?

If so, Where Are They Now? is definitely for you!

Not all players end up running pubs or become TV pundits! It's no secret what Gary Lineker is up to these days but what about the many thousands of players who have slipped from public view? The first edition of "Where Are They Now?" uncovered some fascinating post football stories including the former Arsenal striker who became Iceland's Finance Minister; Millionaires; Bankrupts; Vicars; Comedians; Singers; a Phil Collins lookalike... and one or two publicans!

QUIGLEY, Eddie

Updated: 18-03-24 Frank Ingham

I played cricket with Eddies son, Derek in 1991 and 1992. Eddie was an opening batsman. I met Eddie at an away match and had a good chat with him. He had come to see the game. I am an avid Bury fan and enjoyed, very much, talking about his days at Bury. I was about 10 yrs old when I watched him at Gigg Lane but he was a good goal scorer and was very well liked by the Bury crowd.

EVANS, ALUN

My Dad taught Alun at Sion Hill in Kidderminster and I met him as a young lad when he was invited by Dad by then the headmaster of a school in Stourbridge, to open a school fete. I had a photo taken with him and I was in awe of him. Seemed a lovely man. Dad said he looked a good player as a youth.

DOWD, HARRY

Updated: 17-03-24 Mike May

Still have a VHS tape of the 3 "Holy Trinity" comparison of players from United & City. Funny story told by Malcolm Allison about Harry within the recording about a team talk before a game against Arsenal. Apparently, according to Allison, Harry had no interests in the sport and only ever wanted to be a plumber. Allison gave a team talk prior to the match outlining various players in the opposition and who in the City team should look out for in the match, one by one. He eventually got round to Harry and said, "....oh and Harry...... Arsenal are playing in red!"

WEBSTER, RON

Updated: 17-03-24 Rob Jac

Ron was a fantastic player and servant to Derby County FC. I started supporting the Rams in 1966 so I saw the old team who were struggling and near the bottom of the 2nd division. Then Mr Clough arrived and things happened as we all know. God bless you Ron, all the best to you and yours.

RADFORD, JOHN

Updated: 14-03-24 Daniel Andersom

Met John when he came to work for Allied Dunbar the FS company I was working for in 1992 in Borehamwood. I was dumbstruck that I was working on the same floor as he- albeit briefly. Talked to him about the goal he scored against Everton 72/73 at home. What a player!
