Biography: Spotted by the legendary Louis Rocca while playing for the Royal Navy during World War Two, he was signed by United at the end of the conflict. Despite scoring four goals in seven games during his first season, he was never able to get a run of games with Charlie Mitten and Jimmy Delaney in front of him in the United pecking order. He stayed as a fringe player until his transfer to Everton. He worked in a timber yard, with a view to becoming a commercial traveller. He died in Manchester in June 1990, aged 65.
