Gavin Maguire

Clubs played for: Northwood, QPR, Portsmouth, Newcastle United , Millwall, Scarborough, (1983-1997)

Born: 1967

Birthplace: Hammersmith

Position: Defender

Biography: A gritty midfielder who won the hearts of the fans but drove his managers mad. Alan Ball had first signed him for the club as a 21 year old, but even then he had earned himself a bit of a reputation. He was taken to court for a tackle on Danny Thomas that ended the player's career, a case that resulted in an out of court settlement of around £140,000. This should not take away from the fact that he was a great player who won full caps for his country, Wales. Sadly, as knee injury brought his own playing days to a premature end at the age of 26. He then spent some time in the United States and worked a personal trainer upon his return to England. Having decided this was not the career for him, a friend suggested that he should consider taking up hairdressing. Unlikely as it might sound bearing in mind his 'hard man' reputation, he now runs his own salon in Somerset. 7 Welsh caps.
