Biography: Big Malcolm Allison first spotted Sugrue playing for non-league Nuneaton and paid £20,000 to take him to Manchester City in 1977. This was to be just one of his many clubs and he added Pompey to the list in 1984. Alan Ball secured his services on a free transfer but he only made two league appearances in 15 months. Having returned from a spell in Finland, the well travelled midfielder managed Nuneaton Borough and then became vice-chairman and manager of Merthyr Tydfil. He resigned in 2007 and most recently was reported to have been working as a First Aid trainer with former Welsh international Mark Aizlewood.
