Biography: Became the first player post World War Two in 1948 to win a FA Cup winner's medal in his debut season, having scored in the 4-2 victory over Blackpool. The son of a former rugby league player, he made his Manchester United debut in December 1947 as a late replacement for Johnny Carey, but he couldn't hold down a regular place in United's Half-back line. Later worked as a coach and briefly caretaker manager at his last club, Peterborough. He died in Manchester in August 2006, aged 84.
