Babb, Phil Phil was a pupil of mine at St Bede's Primary School in Clapham Park and I was his headteacher, often reprimanding him for spinning on his head as he left the dinner hall (when it was all the rage).

He played for the District team a year early (i.e in what is now Year 5).

He could play in any position - even at District level - an all-round star even then.

At inter-school sports day he was an excellent sprinter and could have gone far as a runner.

I was not surprised to see him representing Ireland in the World Cup and time and time again master the attacking Italian forwards (they didn't know his speed as a defender) - I could have told them!

Good luck, Phil
