Biography: Played 274 games for the 'Shrews'. Since hanging his boots up, Chic has been involved with the management at Shrewsbury, Swindon, Brimingham, Celtic Stoke. Helped Shrewsbury to a Fourth Division Promotion in 1975).

Bates, Chic Chic Bates started out at Stourbridge Town, where he and Ray Hayward scored 100 goals between them in the 73-74 season. They were then signed by Shrewsbury and it was the equivalent of Liverpool selling Suarez, as all the excitement seemed to go with them and the club never reached the same heights again.
