Biography: Barney was a Scottish International defender who won trophies with Celtic and three Scottish caps before his death from pneumonia in 1905. He was only 30 years old and it is claimed that 40,000 people turned out to pay their respects on the day of his funeral. Unlike, today's top players, Barney would not have earned much money during is career and, in a commendable tribute to their former player, Celtic donated the proceeds from an international match held at Celtic Park to support his family.
