Biography: A sometimes prolific goalscorer born in Lancaster on 27th February 1978. Signed from Blackburn in July 1998 in a player plus cash swap deal with Kevin Davies, Beattie didnÉt actuially score a goal for eighteen months, but eventually started to score regularly in the 2000-2001 season scoring ten in ten matches before another barren spell of just two more goals in that season. The following season saw another slow start he managed fourteen goals in an injury restricting season. The following season was a different story he became the highest scoring Englishman in the Premier league 23 goals in the league and an FA Cup run that only ended in a Wembly Final defeat to Arsenal. He left Southampton for Everton in January 2005, for a fee of ú6 million.
