Biography: An England youth international, made his Manchester United debut against West Brom in August 1949 as a 17 year old. He enjoyed his best season in 1950-51 when he scored four goals in eight first team games. But faced with stiff competition for places despite averaging a goal in every three games, he was sold to Wolves for a five figure fee. He embarked on a coaching career by becoming juniors coach at Blackburn Rovers in 1967, he went on to manage Galatasaray, twice taking them to much success. He later had spells in Sweden and Egypt before settling in South Africa.

Birch, Brian Brian was my favourite player during his time at Lincoln City in my formative supporting years.

Birch, Brian Coached me at Swaraj FC in Johannesburg South Africa. Great knowledge of the game with excellent coaching skills. Died in 1989 of a heart attack in his hotel in Johannesburg. Close friend of Jeff Butler the then Coach of Kaiser Chiefs.

Birch, Brian I trialled with Rovers in 67 with another lad from Leeds and signed as an amateur. Very nice guy and I think he had a lot of time for me but I let him down when Eddie Quigley came to look at me in one game and I let him down that day.
