Biography: Not a name that you may be instantly familiar with but Frank Brettell was Tottenham Hotspur's first ever manager. Believe it or not, a more lucrative offer lured him away to join Portsmouth. In his short stay on the south coast he guided the club to fourth place in the Southern League in their first season before moving on again, this time to Plymouth. Father to 10 children, he became a clerk for a carrier firm and died in 1936 at the age of 74.
