Biography: Berry was one of six keepers on Manchester United's books at one time. Served in the RAF during national service and was granted leave to make his league debut against Sheffield United in January 1948. He impressed in two games over Easter 1948 keeping clean sheets against Huddersfield Town and Bolton. He only made one further appearance in a 4-3 defeat against Blackpool and moved to Doncaster in January 1949, with Jack Crompton firmly first choice between the sticks at Old Trafford. He returned to his native North East and worked in a Hartlepool steelworks. He sadly died in June 2001. His son David, who played for Bury, worked at Manchester airport and now lives in Italy.
