Biography: Spotted by Jimmy Murphy playing for the RAF in Italy, and the two became friends. He signed as a professional in August 1946 but couldn't hold down a regular place in the first team with the likes of John Morris, Arthur Rowley and Stan Pearson preferred. Despite his goal scoring record, Burke was sold to Huddersfield Town in June 1949 after handing in a number of transfer requests. Worked as a probationer nurse at a Watford mental hospital before the War.
