Biography: Charles has struggled with alcoholism since retiring from football and has twice been inside prison, firstly for drink driving and then for cutting his electronic tag off so he could go on holiday to Spain in 2005. He then recieved a suspended sentence and a community order for assaulting a woman in a taxi office, and then turning up to court drunk. He went back to prison in 2006 for committing a public order offence whilst on his suspended sentence. He had claimed to be writing his autobiography but is still yet to publish anything.
