Biography: Aliou Cisse's £300,000 transfer from Birmingham City to Pompey in 2004 later hit the headlines, having been brought into question by the Stevens inquiry. He developed a reputation as a 'dirty player' and only appeared for the first team 23 times over the next two years before seeing out the rest of his career in France. Played for Senegal in the 2002 World Cup but lost several members of his family in a ferry disaster in the same year. Was appointed Head Coach of his national team in March 2015 and made history in February 2022 when they won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time.
