Biography: Steve Claridge is without doubt one of the most colourful characters to have come out of Portsmouth. Although born in Fareham it took several years and numerous clubs before he actually played for Pompey. A fans' favourite throughout his career, which included over 800 matches and stops at more than 20 clubs (deliberately left vague because, even now, he could still pull his boots on again!). Since 'retiring' he did briefly return to Fratton Park as manager but has been a regular fixture on our TV screens and has been shareholder/manager at Salisbury since 2015. His Twitter page quotes: "Realise you can't please all the people all the time - but some would be nice!"

Claridge, Steve Met Steve in Ladbrokes Shanklin about 10 years ago. Most people placed bets with notes in hands, Steve was passing his over in a folded carrier bag. Nice guy.
