Birthplace: Wednesbury, Staffordshire

Position: goalkeeper

Biography: Joined United on the same day as his school boy friend, Duncan Edwards, a member of United's outstanding 1953 FA Youth Cup winning team. He only made two first team appearances against Wolves and West Bromwich Albion, but with Ray Wood as first choice keeper, he left for Tranmere along with Bobby Harrop. He represented the club as eight funerals for victims of the Munich air crash. He joined the police force after leaving Tranmere but then returned to United as assistant chief scout in the early 70s. He then went to scout for Derby and was assistant manager of Burnley for a spell. His career ended in non league football with Cheadle Town and Northwich Victoria, where he was assistant manager to his close friend Sammy McIlroy at the time of his death in Stretford in September 1991.
