David Cliss

Birthplace: Enfield

Position: Inside-forward

Biography: An England youth international who was an FA Youth Cup finalist. Suffered a broken leg at the start of the 1960-61 and he never regained his form, as a result was released into non-league football. He ran a window cleaning business with Peter Sillett when they were at Guildford City, only to find out they were both afraid of heights when they turned up to their first job! He emigrated to Australia, where he died.

Cliss, David I was at school with David, (Suffolk’s secondary modern) in Enfield. He was a very good footballer then, as well as gymnastics. Sad to hear David died, RIP.

Cliss, David I was at Stamford Bridge the day he broke his leg. As it was a reserve team match the ground was fairly empty. The sound of the break was heard all around the ground. I had seen him a few times and he was rightly being hailed as the new Jimmy Greaves.
