Birthplace: Lurgan, Northern Ireland

Position: Wing-half

Biography: Arrived at Stamford Bridge as a make-weight in part exchange for the great Tommy Lawton. In his first three seasons he was restricted to 19 appearances by a string of injuries but repaid the faith of Ted Drake in his final three seasons, chalking up 100 games. Drake then sold him to Arsenal for £15,000. He returned to live and work as scout for Arsenal in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, then worked as a joiner until retiring. Died in June 2002 aged 79.

Dickson, Bill My uncle Bill was a true gentleman. I myself played at junior level. He said to me many are called but few are chosen you have to be good to play in the English first division.
