Phil Driver

Clubs played for: Bedford Town, Chelsea, Wimbledon, Maidstone United, St Albans City (1978-1989)

Born: 1959

Birthplace: Huddersfield

Position: Winger

Biography: Signed by Geoff Hurst for £20,000 because he was looking for some width on the right wing. Driver being a good crosser with neat skills and good pace seemed to fit the bill and certainly his early contributions sparked a revival in the clubs fortunes. A knee injury suffered at Cambridge was the beginning of the end for his Blues career - when he returned, he struggled to rediscover his early promise and was allowed to return to Wimbledon. Lives in Welwyn Garden City and is club captain for the local cricket club. Worked for Blue Arrow Recruitment before entering the hospitality industry, firstly with Ambro Events and now the Cavendish Group.
