Biography: Quit in tears as Liverpool boss in the wake of the Hysel riot in May 1985, less than two years after taking over from Bob Paisley. Was a former member of the famous Liverpool boot room before taking over as boss, played as a Centre-half with Manchester City and Bradford P.A. During his relatively brief Anfield reign, they won the European Cup, Milk Cup and a League title. Joe died on 30th June 2001, aged 80. (Helped Manchester City to a Second Division championship in 1972)
