Position: Midfielder

Biography: Former England captain who had his best days playing for QPR and Crystal Palace. He joined Pompey briefly at the request of his old England team mate Alan Ball but only made a few appearances before ending his career at Bristol Rovers. He then succeeded Bobby Gould as the Pirates' manager and led the club to promotion out of the Third Division in the following year. This was to be the start of a successful management career with QPR (twice), Tottenham Hotspur and a return to Bristol Rovers. He is now first team coach at Stoke City but also owned his own Antiques business in Chertsey, Surrey.
