Biography: Gosney was born in Southampton but joined Pompey apprentice in 1979. He turned professional in 1981, but lived in the shadow of Alan Knight, making only 62 appearances in thirteen years. Brief spells at Birmingham and Exeter followed before retiring from the game in 1993. Gosney was credited with giving Darren Anderton the nickname "Sicknote"
