Gunter, Philip As a member of he Devonshire Avenue Baptist YPF in roundabout 1956, I attended a talk given by Phil in his religious days on the subject of the word Vein (Vain). He was also a keen tennis player, as was I, during that day and age. I played against him on a number of occasions. He was a born again Christian in his youth, as was I, and we both lost our faith in favour of atheism (as far as I know).

Gunter, Philip I too attended Eastney Gospel Mission and Sunday bible classes. I recall a Mission’s organised treat, a day out coach (charabanc) excursion with family and friends. to Romney Abbey. Phil G. a right back and centre half was my group teacher. He would arrange for my photographs of Pompey’s opponent teams to be autographed. Not a believer aged 82

Gunter, Philip I watched at Phil Gunter at Fratton Park as a kid and was privileged to play football with him at the Southern Grammer School Portsmouth when he joined in our games periods in the later 60s. A good player and a great guy. Happy memories.

Gunter, Philip I lived not far from Phil Gunter in Portsmouth. He asked my brother to ask me to become his girlfriend. We were both aged 14 and I became his first girlfriend and he was my first boyfriend for a few months in 1946. Neither a hand holding nor a kiss ever took place between us. I was helpful however as goalie when he used to practice his football at the top of Bransbury Park. He taught me the words to the song which was sung at Eastney Sunshine Mission. I am now 88 and remember every word even though I have never been a believer.
