Gareth Hall

Clubs played for: Chelsea, Sunderland, Brentford, Swindon Town, Havant & Waterlooville (1986-2001)

Born: 1969

Birthplace: Croydon

Position: Defender

Biography: Was named The Chelsea Young Player of the Year in 1985 and had captained both the youth and reserve teams by the time he was 18. Made his league debut in May 1987, turning in the first of many trademark no nonsense displays played at right back. February 1990 saw him dislodge Steve Clarke, but the arrival of Ian Porterfield as manager in the summer of 1991 saw Clarke reinstalled with Hall requesting a move. He stayed at Stamford Bridge for another five years until the signing of Dan Petrescu brought the curtain down on a ten year Blues career. Hall is now a fully qualified plasterer but has been the full time assistant manager of Blue Square Premier Hayes & Yeading United since May 2007. He had held the same job at Yeading United before the clubs merged.
