Jeff Hemmerman

Jeff Hemmerman

Clubs played for: Hull City, Scunthorpe United, Port Vale, Portsmouth, Cardiff City (1973-1983)

Born: 1955

Birthplace: Hull

Position: Forward

Biography: The corkscrew haired striker only ended up at Pompey due to administrative problems with the American indoor league, where he was due to play. The club needed to bring in replacements after relegation to the Third Division in 1978 and Hemmerman was seen as ideal cover for the existing strike- force. It wasn't long before he had edged himself into the frame and was being picked as first choice. In his four seasons, he notched up a creditable 45 goals in 140 appearances and it was a surprise when he was allowed to sign for Cardiff City in 1982. A knee ligament injury forced an early end to his footballing days and led to a career in physiotherapy. He then worked in Cardiff prior to setting up his own clinic in Newport, Gwent.
