Hicks, Stuart Stuart Hicks helped send Preston North End to Wembley in 1994 after a stellar performance and a goal in the League II play-off second leg v Torquay United at Deepdale. One story is that Hicks, having never played at Wembley, invited all his family to attend the Final against Wycombe Wanderers, fully expecting to be in the starting line-up. Just before kickoff, North End Manager John Beck told Hicks that he was not in the team. Rumour has it that Hicks had Beck up against the wall. Hicks replacement, Jamie Squires, had a stinker and even scored and own goal. Poetic justice some would say. Is it true? Maybe Stuart can tell us!
