Biography: Former Scotland Under-21 international whose 6ft 1in frame slotted comfortably into the back four, keeping out the likes of Gordon McQueen and Kevin Moran. He was unlucky to miss the 1985 FA Cup Final victory over Everton through injury even though he had been a regular fixture in the side. After Paul McGrath and Kevin Moran started to emerge on the scene, he found his chances few and far between and was allowed to leave for the South Coast after eight years at Old Trafford when Portsmouth offered £150,000 for his services in 1988. Later played for Hearts, Notts County and Brentford before finally retiring from the game in 1998. Is now back living in his native Scotland and works as a television engineer.
